Michael A. Timbes

About

Michael A. Timbes grew up in Conway, South Carolina, where he developed a love of sports and the outdoors. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina and later returned to the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he graduated, with honors, receiving several accolades for his academic achievement. Following a judicial internship that began in his third year of law school, Michael was hired by the Honorable Kaye G. Hearn, then Chief Judge of the South Carolina Court of Appeals, to serve as her law clerk. He began his career in private practice as a business litigator with Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PLLP, in Atlanta, Georgia, where he worked on complex business disputes across the nation and co-authored successful state and federal appeals. In 2005, Michael moved to Charleston, where he joined forces with long-time friends Paul Thurmond and Jesse Kirchner in forming the law firm of Thurmond Kirchner & Timbes, P.A., located in the historic district of downtown Charleston. Michael directs the firm’s business litigation, civil litigation, personal injury, and appellate practice groups. He is also a Certified Civil Court Mediator.

Michael enjoys the challenge of resolving complex issues of law. He has enjoyed successes at trial and all levels of appeal in cases spanning a wide range of legal issues. In addition to his practice, Michael is appointed by the South Carolina Supreme Court to the Board of Law Examiners. He has served as an adjunct professor of legal writing and research for the Charleston School of Law, and he has participated in the University of South Carolina School of Law Peer Mentor Program. Prior to law school, he served as a project coordinator for a commercial contractor along coastal South Carolina, gaining valuable experience in the field of construction.
